EX-BLACKBURN Rovers midfielder Lee Carsley has been placed in charge of Brentford until the end of the season after Marinus Dijkhuizen was sacked.

The Dutchman took over the Griffin Park hotseat in June following the controversial departure of Mark Warburton who had guided the club to promotion and then into the Championship play-offs at the first attempt.

But Dijkhuizen and his assistant Roy Hendriksen have been shown the door after losing five of their nine games in charge.

Carsley, who scored 13 goals in 55 appearances for Rovers between March 1999 and December 2000, has been promoted from within and will take control of Brentford’s Championship clash at home to his former club Birmingham City tonight.

A club statement read: “Brentford Football Club can confirm that the club head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and his assistant, Roy Hendriksen, have parted company.

“Lee Carsley has been promoted to head coach until the end of the season when the position will be reviewed.

“Lee has vast experience of the English game and has hugely impressed with his work with the club’s development squad. He will be assisted by Paul Williams.

“The club believes Lee deserves the opportunity to step up and help shape Brentford FC’s future on the pitch.”
