GARY Bowyer says he has not spoken to Venky’s after it was claimed he had lost his job as Blackburn Rovers boss.

It was reported after Rovers were beaten 1-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday that Bowyer had been sacked from the role he has held since May 2013.

The report came as a surprise to Ewood Park officials.

They immediately contacted Rovers’ owners in India in for clarification on Bowyer’s position.

And, after Venky’s confirmed that he was still in charge, the club issued a statement denying the report.

Bowyer was unaware of the speculation raging over his future until he landed back in Manchester.

By that stage Rovers had already taken to social media to state that he remained their manager.

But when asked yesterday whether he had sought assurances over his future, Bowyer said: “Not at all, it was a conversation that didn’t need to be had so we’ve not had it.”

And when asked if he had contacted Venky’s or if Venky’s had contacted him, he said: “No.”

Bowyer will take charge of Rovers for the 120th time tonight when they host Bolton Wanderers.

He has led the club to eighth and ninth-placed finishes in his first two seasons at the Ewood Park helm.
