BLACKBURN Rovers Under-21s are still seeking their first win of the season after going down 1-0 at West Brom on Monday night.

But Damien Johnson’s side, who have taken one point from their opening three U21s Premier Division Two games, will be wondering how they did not get off the mark against the Baggies.

They twice went close in the opening stages through midfielder David Carson.

He fired wide from inside the area before he saw a close-range effort sensationally saved by Ethan Ross.

Rovers continued to carve out the better opportunities and Connor Mahoney headed a Willem Tomlinson centre wide when well placed.

It came against the run of play, then, when West Brom went in front six minutes before the break.

Mark Edgar was adjudged to have brought down Tahvon Campbell in the box and Samir Nabi sent Ryan Crump the wrong way from the resulting penalty.

Nabi twice was a whisker away from scoring again.

But Rovers had their chances too, which Tomlinson, Mahoney and Devarn Green were unable to take.

Their win maintained West Brom’s perfect start to the campaign and ensured they took over at the top.

Rovers slipped to 10th, a position they will look to improve on when they return to league action on Monday, September 14 against West Ham Untied at Ewood Park (7pm).
