GARY Bowyer insists the Blackburn Rovers side which takes to the field at Huddersfield Town tomorrow will be ‘full of confidence’.

A much-changed Rovers team were knocked out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night when they went down 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury Town.

But Bowyer is expected to revert to most of the side which started last Saturday’s Championship opener at home to Wolves, who won 2-1 thanks to Dave Edwards’ controversial winner.

And the Rovers boss said: “There was a lot of promise from Saturday’s game and we’ll be going into this game full of confidence on the back of that.

“We’ve worked well this week on areas we can still improve on and it’s now a case of taking it through until the next game.

“We’ve had some players in the building for probably two-and-a-half weeks, and we’ve had two more arrive this week, so you have to be patient and you have to be sensible, and give them time to settle and get on with it.

“The lads will stick together and we’ll have a right good go on Saturday.”

The defeat to Shrewsbury means Rovers have lost to League One opposition at the first-round stage for three years running after Scunthorpe United, last season, and Carlisle United, in 2013-14, claimed their scalp.

Bowyer said: “There was disappointment at being knocked out and people have not been slow to jump on the bandwagon, so to speak, this week, but we’ve been through this situation before and we bounced back last season by going and winning at Blackpool and that’s the aim for this weekend.”

Rovers have a clean bill of health bar from midfielder Chris Taylor.
