FLYING wide man Modou Barrow winged into Blackburn Rovers last night – and he was joined by midfielder Hope Akpan today.

Gambia international Barrow, 22, has signed a three-month loan deal from Premier League outfit Swansea City to become Rovers boss Gary Bowyer’s fifth summer signing.

And that number shot up to six today when Akpan completed his move from Championship rivals Reading.

Swansea have given the fast and tricky winger permission to play in the tie provided he receives international clearance from the Football Association of Wales in time.

Barrow is no stranger to Ewood Park.

He featured for Swansea in their FA Cup fourth round 3-1 loss at Rovers in January.

And he returned to the ground in April when he produced a livewire performance to help Nottingham Forest fight back on three separate occasions to force a 3-3 draw.

Barrow, who made four appearances for Forest before being recalled by Swansea, said: “I’m really happy to be here because I played against them twice last season and both times it was a tough game.

“They have a really good team so I’m looking forward to joining the team and playing with them.”

Barrow became the first Gambian to play in the Premier League when he came off the bench in Swansea’s 2-1 home win over Arsenal in November.

But he moved to Sweden when he was 11 and before he completed his switch to Rovers, he sought the advice of Markus Olsson, their Swedish international.

Barrow, who scored one goal in 13 appearances for Swansea last season, said: “I spoke to him before I made the move and he told me it was a big club, with really nice people, and who play good football.

“I didn’t need convincing and I’m seeing that for myself.”

Barrow, who can play anywhere across the attack, added: “I’m just going to work hard on the training ground and try to play as many games as possible.”
