BLACKBURN Rovers have secured victory at Wembley thanks to Salesbury C of E Primary School.

Salesbury were representing Rovers in the Kinder+Sport Championship Kids Cup, which saw schools compete on behalf of Football League clubs.

The Ribble Valley school took on St James Primary School, who were representing AFC Bournemouth.

Salesbury fielded a team including goalkeeper Jacob Mithoo and captain Conner Eccleston as well as Lanre Okeweusi, Adam Wharton, Ishan Goshawk, Daniel Rawson, Jack Wilson and Oliver Rawson.

The 14-minute match ended in a tense goalless draw before Oliver Rawson scored the winning spot kick for Salesbury in a penalty shoot-out.

He said: “It’s a great feeling to score a penalty at Wembley.

“All my family and friends were in the crowd and it was great having them all here.”

Accrington Stanley were also represented in the League Two final - with Huncoat Primary School losing 2-0 to Lyndhurst Primary School, who were playing on behalf of Portsmouth.

Huncoat’s team was goalkeeper Ross Fitzpatrick, captain Harry Williams, Bradley Boyer, Zak Scott, Arran Worden, Rowan Chambers, Matthew Kardazc and Dominic Phillipson but they were beaten 2-0.
