GARY Bowyer admits there will be times this summer when Blackburn Rovers will be priced out of the market.

But he has told anyone wanting to join the three-time top-flight champions that they will become better players at Ewood Park.

Rovers boss Bowyer will be restricted to free transfers and loan signings once the transfer window officially opens on July 1 after the club failed Financial Fair Play.

His squad will also not be able to contain more than 24 established players and any new recruits cannot be paid more than £10,000 per week.

“We know what we can spend, so from that point of view, you know where you can shop,” said Bowyer, who currently has 20 established players on his books, although that figure will rise to 22 if out-of-contract duo Chris Taylor and Josh King sign new deals.

“But the frustrating bit personally is that when you’re interested in a player, and you’re speaking to their agent, as soon as they mention any figure above £10,000, we’re out of the running.

“It’s nothing to do with attracting the player to the club and it’s nothing to do with the player not wanting to join Blackburn Rovers.

“It’s just that once the wage demands are over that certain figure, we can’t enter that race because other clubs have greater financial spending power than us.”

But while Rovers may not be able to offer targets the wages on offer elsewhere, Bowyer is adamant that the club, which this month celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Premiership title triumph, still has pulling power.

Bowyer believes that, along with its rich history and top-class training facilities at Brockhall, new arrivals are ‘guaranteed’ to improve their game.

The Ewood boss cites the example of this season’s top scorer Rudy Gestede.

Rovers snapped up the Benin international for £200,000 from Cardiff City in January 2014 after nine goals in 63 games for the Welsh club.

Since then Gestede has scored 34 times in 65 appearances in the blue and white halved shirt and developed into one of the most feared forwards outside of the Premier League.

The 26-year-old was the subject of a failed £3.5m bid for Crystal Palace from January.

And should Rovers sell Gestede, who has been linked with a host of top-flight clubs, in the summer, they would likely look for a figure closer to double that amount.

Bowyer said: “I think the big thing that we can offer players coming to our club, on top of the fantastic facilities that we’ve got, and playing for a club with such a great history, is the fact that we’ve got staff, from the medical and sports science teams to the coaches out on the grass, who work with you very hard and make you better players.

“They’ve proved that. There’s no arguing with that.

“Look at the players we’ve got now and their current values compared to when we first brought them into the club.

“That’s one guarantee we can definitely give any player – they will improve here.”
