BLACKBURN Rovers Academy extended their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 1-1 derby draw at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

In testing conditions Brian Carey’s in-form side fell behind to an early goal from Tyrell Palmer.

But they were level before the first half was out thanks to Willem Tomlinson.

Rovers boss Carey said: “It was a below-par performance from us.

“The conditions played a part, we had to abandon our regular style and it made it difficult for us, but we need to be able to deal with those situations.

“We had loads of possession and plenty of chances and had we scored a second I’m sure we’d have gone on and got more, but it wasn’t to be.”

Palmer took advantage of some hesitant Rovers play to open the scoring in the second minute.

But Bolton were pegged back in the 36th minute when Josh Askew’s free kick was cleared only as far as Tomlinson who equalised in impressive fashion.

Rovers spent most of the second half on the front foot.

But, despite creating a host of good opportunities, they could not get the second goal their play deserved.

The closest they came was when Lewis Mansell, now a regular for the U21s, was sensationally denied by Will Jaaskelainen, son of former Bolton goalkeeper Jussi.

Rovers round off their season on Saturday when they welcome Stoke City to Brockhall.

Kick-off at the academy is 11am and all supporters are welcome.
