DAVID Dunn would have been proud of the goal that earned Blackburn Rovers their third straight U21s Premier League Division Two 1-0 win yesterday.

Just hours after Dunn announced his imminent departure from the club, one of the midfielders hoping to follow in his footsteps fired Eric Kinder’s side to a hard-fought victory over Wolves at a sun-kissed but windy Brockhall.

There were 19 minutes on the clock when tenacious Rovers captain David Carson won the ball in the centre of the park and drove at the Wolves defence before firing in his first goal of the season in some style.

“He shocked us all,” joked Rovers U21s boss Kinder before adding: “We see him do it in training but that’s his first goal.

“His positional play, from where the ball was, was excellent, he read it and I thought he was going to take it first time, but as soon as he moved it on to his right foot we knew he had the quality to finish from that angle as we see it in training.

“I’m delighted for him.”

In a more open second half, which was as fiercely contested as the first, Connor Thomson and Connor Mahoney had chances to extend Rovers’ advantage while Lee Evans and Eusebio Bancessi wasted golden opportunities to equalise for the visitors.

Kinder said: “Did we deserve to win? If I’m being honest, probably not.

“But we did and the scoreline says Blackburn Rovers 1 Wolves 0.”

It was Rovers’ third straight 1-0 victory in the league.
