HISTORY-MAKING striker Jordan Rhodes admits Blackburn Rovers’ latest slip-up sums up their ‘frustrating’ season.

Rhodes looked set to round off a dream week when he doubled Rovers’ advantage at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

But his former club cancelled out his and strike-partner Rudy Gestede’s efforts to claim a 2-2 draw.

It was the 11th time this season, and the third time in the last four matches, that Rovers have failed to take three points after going in front.

And Rhodes said: “I think everyone associated with Blackburn would sum this season up in one word and that word would be frustrating.

“At times we’ve shown we can be up there and be a force to be reckoned with but if any games summed up what we have been about it’s been these last two or three.

“Last week against Nottingham Forest we were up three times and it finished 3-3 and on Saturday we were up and it finished 2-2.

“I don’t know how points we’ve lost from winning positions but I think it’s a stat coming back next year we really need to eradicate and get better at.”

Rhodes’ fifth goal on his last three visits to Huddersfield was his 20th of another prolific campaign.

It is the sixth season running he has reached that milestone and in doing so he has become the first Rovers player since Alan Shearer to score 20 league goals or more in three successive campaigns.

And Rhodes, who moved to Ewood Park for a club record £8m from Huddersfield in August 2012, said: “I just try and do the best I can whenever given time on the field and do my best for whoever I’m playing for.

“I love coming in every day and pulling on that shirt and scoring goals for such a historically proud club. I’m very proud to do that.”

Rhodes and leading marksman Gestede, who took his tally for the term up to 21 in all competitions on Saturday, are the first Rovers players to each reach 20 goals in a season since Chris Sutton and Kevin Gallacher in 1997-98.

The duo are now up to 39 league goals for the campaign with only Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, of promoted Watford, having scored more in the Championship, with 41.

“We mentioned in the week about Ighalo and Deeney at Watford and we’re not far behind them,” said Rhodes, whose Rovers’ record now stands at 73 goals in 140 appearances.

“But while me and Rudy are getting the goals we see it as a real partnership between all the strikers – Chris Brown, Luke Varney, Josh King and David Dunn when he’s been played up there.

“It’s not just about the two of us, we see it as a real collective effort. Everyone is pushing each other and we’re all trying to strive and do better.”

Rhodes was named in the Football League Team of the Decade, alongside the likes of Real Madrid’s, £85m world record signing Gareth Bale, last Sunday.

And the 25-year-old Scotland international, who has netted 155 goals in 290 Football League appearances, said: “It was a real major honour and right up there with the accolades I’ve had in my career.

“To be named alongside some of the players in that team was a real honour and I’m just very humbled to be part of it.”
