BLACKBURN Rovers need to win at least 10 of their last 12 games to make the play-offs, and I don’t think players will be going to Sheffield Wednesday tonight with one eye on Anfield.

I know there’s an FA Cup quarter final coming up at Liverpool on Sunday, but I really think that they will be totally focused on the game they have in front of them at Hillsborough.

People would be amazed by how quickly players can switch their focus from one game to another, but it has to be done.

Players won’t go to Sheffield Wednesday trying to avoid injury. You can never do that because that’s the way you get injured in football.

It was a good result on Saturday, not many teams have kept clean sheets against Bournemouth, although it is wins they need now to make the top six.

Of course it will be very difficult to do that, but you’ve got to give it a go while it’s still mathematically possible. You shouldn’t be in the game if you’re happy just to stay in the situation you’re in.

But you look at people like Maicon who had the build to be a centre back but was a very good right back who bombed on down the flank. I still personally think that Alex’s best position is right back.

You don’t want to go into the cup game on the back of a defeat and obviously I have happy memories of Anfield from 1995 - sitting on the bench and celebrating winning the league.

The Liverpool fans stayed and applauded us on our half lap of honour. Most fans would have gone home in the same situation, but they didn’t.

I’ll always remember that.
