BLACKBURN Rovers Under-21s couldn’t follow up their Premier League Cup heroics with a league victory last night.

Eric Kinder’s side, who defeated Reading in the semi-final of the cup on Thursday night, were held to a 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at Ewood Park in a Barclays Under-21 Premier League Division Two encounter.

In a first half of few chances Connor Mahoney saw an early shot go wide before Bradley Bauress had two long range efforts blocked.

Perhaps the best chance of the half fell to the hosts four minutes before the interval when Yann Songo’o saw a looping header cleared off the line.

The visitors made a strong start to the second half with Danny Pappoe heading over and Jesse Starkey coming close with a free kick.

But Rovers responded and Modu Cham saw an effort blocked after fine work by Devarn Green.

Both sides were struggling to create clear goalscoring chances and although both teams pushed for a winner neither could find a way through.

The result ended a run of five straight league defeats for Rovers who are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Reading (7pm).
