CRAIG Conway has been labelled a ‘great example’ to the younger members of the Blackburn Rovers squad.

The winger, 29, maintained his return to form by sealing Rovers’ 3-1 FA Cup victory over Swansea City on Saturday.

It was Conway’s first goal of a season in which has yet to meet the exceptionally high standards he set himself in his debut campaign at Ewood Park.

But, according to his manager, that has not been for the lack of trying.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer said: “His confidence, to be fair, has never been knocked.

“He’s a model professional and a top pro.

“He gets on with everything and he’s a great example to the younger lads in how he conducts himself in training and off the pitch.

“We’re delighted that he’s got his first goal of the season and that should give him a boost to try more shots and have more pops at goal.”

Stand-in Rovers skipper Jason Lowe was also effusive in his praise of Conway.

“I’m delighted for Craig, he’s been doing well the last few weeks, so it was good to see him get a goal,” said Lowe.

“He worked his socks off, he was brilliant up that left-hand side, so I’m happy for him.”

Conway assisted 12 goals and scored a further four in just 18 games last season after his £100,000 move from Cardiff City on the final day of the January transfer window.

He has made more goals than any other Rovers players – five – this season.

And Conway said: “This season has been a little different to last year and maybe a little more stop-start but I certainly feel like I’m getting back to where I was.”
