THE ‘Rovers Remember’ memorial at Ewood Park, which honours Blackburn’s fallen war heroes, has been revamped.

The wooden plaques, which were salvaged from Hollin Bank Mission, had become damaged by the weather and have been replaced by a granite replica, manufactured free of charge by Brent Stevenson Memorials, Blackburn.

The commemorative gesture enables the club to continue to remember those who gave their lives in the Great War from the Ewood area.

A wreath will be laid during a special remembrance service at the memorial, situated on the side of the Jack Walker Stand, at 11am today.

All supporters are welcome to attend.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer, meanwhile, has paid tribute to the fans who watched his side draw 1-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday and 2-2 at Millwall last Tuesday.

“The supporters were terrific on Saturday and we appreciate their efforts going all that way,” said Bowyer who, along with Brighton manager Sami Hyypia, laid a wreath before kick-off on Saturday in a moving service to mark Remembrance Day.

“And if you look at it, it’s not just been Brighton and Brighton and Millwall away, we’ve had Ipswich away and Nottingham Forest away, too, so it’s been an unbelievable effort.

“The numbers they’ve turned up in have been greatly appreciated by the lads and that’s why at the end on Saturday we made sure to go over and thank them rather than wave from near the tunnel.

“We made that effort because we certainly appreciated theirs.”
