BEN Marshall playing as an attacking right back could give Blackburn Rovers the option to go 3-5-2.

I’ve got to be honest, I’m not a big fan of the system myself, as I played 12 years at international level in what was supposedly a 3-5-2, when it was more like a 5-3-2.

It’s not the best for forwards as everything is driven central down the middle of the park and it that makes it difficult for your movement.

But I have seen it played well in recent seasons by Juventus. They have rejuvenated the system.

They had wing backs who were actually wingers and two centre halves who had actually played full back. It was a very, very attacking system with only one holding midfielder. They were the best team I’ve seen do it.

Whether Rovers could be as adventurous and go that way too, I don’t know, but it would be very, very interesting.

But even if they continue to play with four at the back, there shouldn’t be a problem with Ben playing right back.

Wingers generally can defend, it’s just they are not the best defensively and that’s why they play further forward.

But if you’re going to play with attacking full backs then your midfielders have to be clever enough to cover for them and do a job for them when they have bombed forward.

That’s an art in itself, being able to visualise where you have to be.

But whatever formation Rovers go with on Saturday, it’s important to get a win over Huddersfield.

There’s nothing worse than going into an international break with a defeat hanging over you as you know you have to wait another two weeks to try and put it right.

Win and the players going away with their countries will have a smile on their faces and the players who will remain know life will be a little bit easier for them.
