BLACKBURN Rovers have slipped to 11th in the Championship standings after they were beaten 2-0 at struggling Rotherham United last night.

Gary Bowyer’s side were terribly out-of-sorts in the first half and, while they improved after the restart, the damage had already been done.

Kari Arnason gave the Millers, who had failed to win any of their previous six matches, a fifth-minute lead.

It was a lead that they doubled in the 32nd minute, courtesy of Luciano Becchio, who benefited from a horrible goalkeeping error from Jason Steele.

Rovers boss Bowyer said: “We gifted them two goals and it was not unacceptable.

“We had a rally in the second half, showing the character that we’ve got, but I don’t want to talk about how we have to rally.

“We have to get ourselves in front in games.

“It’s disappointing.

“We had a go in the second half, Shane Duffy had a header cleared off the line and Jordan Rhodes misses one from two yards that you’d have put your mortgage on (for him to score).

“Had one of those gone in then it could have been different but we’ve not come away with anything.”

A bad night was made worse for Rovers, who lost midfielder Tom Cairney to a groin injury on the morning of the match, when top scorer Rudy Gestede came off with a hamstring problem.

Midfielder Corry Evans was shown his fifth booking of the season, meaning he will miss Saturday’s home clash against Huddersfield Town.
