FORMER Blackburn Rovers striker DJ Campbell has signed for Conference South side Maidenhead United.

The striker, who made 16 appearances for Rovers but did not manage a single goal, could make his debut for this new side in Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Faversham Town.

Campbell, 32, has reunited with his former manager at Hayes & Yeading, Johnson Hippolyte at the Magpies, having left Ewood Park in the summer.

Maidenhead, where Campbell has been training since the summer, are currently 16th in the second tier of non-league football.

The former Queens Park Rangers forward made his name in non-league before joining then League One side Brentford.

He has also played for Birmingham City in the Premier League before joining Rovers, initially on loan, in February 2013. He spent time on loan at Millwall at the end of last season where he scored twice in six starts.

Earlier this month Campbell thanked Gary Bowyer after revealing the Rovers boss helped talk him out of quitting football.

Campbell was arrested in December as a as part of a National Crime Agency probe into alleged spot-fixing in football and placed on bail. Last month his bail was lifted and released without charge.
