UPBEAT Ben Marshall says six points is the only target Blackburn Rovers should be setting for their big home double header.

And Gary Bowyer’s side could be boosted for the back-to-back Ewood Park clashes with Wigan Athletic tomorrow and Derby County on Wednesday by the return of Rudy Gestede.

Marshall admitted Rovers missed the striker who is key to the way they play in the 3-1 loss to Wolves last time out.

But the fit-again winger has no doubts they can bounce back with victories over two teams who, having made the play-offs last season, are among the favourites to win promotion to the Premier League.

Marshall said: “They’ve been up there and it’s going to be hard.

“But it’s down to us to match them and these are the games we need to be winning if we want to go up.

“And, to be honest, at home I think we should be beating every club in the Championship with the team that we’ve got.

“We’re strong at home so I don’t see any reason why we can’t get three points from each game.

“You’ve got to go into every game thinking you’re going to win it.

“We’re going to give them both a good run and, for me, I see no reason why we can’t beat them.”

Rovers have not lost any of their last eight league fixtures at home.

But they go into tomorrow’s Lancashire derby with the Latics on the back of the defeat to high flying Wolves.

Gestede missed the Molineux match after going over on his ankle and hurting his knee in training.

Yesterday Rovers boss Bowyer said: “Rudy has trained today so we’ll see how he is.

“He said he felt fine but you always have to just assess him.”

Marshall certainly hopes Gestede will be fit to face Wigan.

He said: “We were disappointed with the result at Wolves but I thought we did well with way we played and the way we adapted without Rudy as we kept the ball.

“But we conceded sloppy goals and that was that.

“I wouldn’t say we all have to change our game when Rudy is not playing but it’s nice to know if you put a good ball into the box he’s going to win it.

“He is an outlet who is always there to hold it up and for Jordan Rhodes to run on to.

“Yes we missed him but it’s going to happen, we’re going to miss big players and we just have to adapt to it.”

One player certain to start tomorrow is Gestede’s prolific strike-partner Rhodes after Rovers resisted Hull City’s attempts to sign him before the summer transfer window closed.

Marshall said: “There was a lot of money on the table so it was good from the owners and it shows they believe in us.

“I’m glad he didn’t go. He’s my roommate so I told him not to go – then he decided not to go.

“Is he good at making the brews? He is, yes, even though he doesn’t have many himself.

“I’ve just bought a little bell so I ring that and get my coffee. He’s quite good like that.”
