CAPTAIN Grant Hanley says there will be no Carrow Road hangover from Blackburn Rovers in their Championship clash at home to Bournemouth today.

Spirits were low among the Rovers players after their 14-match unbeaten league run came to an end in controversial and agonising fashion at Norwich City on Tuesday night.

But Hanley, who produced a towering performance in the 3-1 loss, insists they have not been wallowing in self pity ahead of an encounter with a Cherries side who were the last team to take three points from Ewood Park.

The Scotland international said: “We’ve definitely picked ourselves up. It was a hard game the other night and they were really impressive.

“But we showed a lot of character and spirit.

“I watched the video of the game on Thursday and when we went 2-1 down we were pushing to get an equaliser. We had Robbo (goalkeeper Paul Robinson) upfield and lads busting a gut to get back and make blocks on the line.

“We gave it our all and on another night, if one or two decisions had gone our way, the result might have been different.

“But they didn’t go our way and we’ve just got to put the result behind us now and hopefully get a result on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a tough game, as they’re a good team, but it’s a challenge we’re looking forward to.”

Rovers have not lost in the league at home since going down 1-0 to today’s opponents Bournemouth on March 12.

Gary Bowyer’s side responded to that disappointing defeat by going on an unbeaten league run, comprising seven wins and seven draws, which was halted only by a Norwich side Gary Bowyer believes are the best team he has faced since taking over the club.

Now Hanley is urging his team-mates to go on another run.

The 22-year-old said: “To go 14 matches in the Championship without losing is a good record as it’s a tough, tough league.

“The amount of games we have to play, and how quickly we have to play them and then recover, makes it difficult to get that level of consistency.

“But now we have to start again and get another run together and get ourselves up the top end of the league.”

Rovers have won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three Championship matches to sit 15th in the early standings.

Bournemouth are two points better off in fifth after taking six points out of a possible nine.

Rovers boss Bowyer said: “We feel we should have had a few more points than what we’ve got.

“Some of our football has been good and the resilience and the character we showed on Tuesday was impressive.

“If you would have taken a camera into that dressing room at the end of the match you would have seen how much it hurt the players.

“That should give every supporter confidence, and it certainly gave us confidence, that every one of them is fighting for Blackburn Rovers and fighting for that badge.

“Now we’ve got to regroup and go again.”
