DAVID Dunn can only be described as a class act for everything he has done during his time at Ewood Park.

And so it was only fitting that, in announcing his decision to part ways with Rovers, he paid tribute to the fans in a beautifully-written goodbye statement.

Dunny definitely has the talent to continue playing somewhere, and I, along with I am sure all other Rovers fans, fully support his decision to seek first-team football outside of Blackburn.

And as he said in his letter, first published yesterday on the Lancashire Telegraph website, hopefully his first job in coaching will be back at his true home.

It is rare in today’s modern game for a player to spend so much time at their hometown club, certainly at this level, and it is testament to Dunny’s quality as a player as well as his character that he spent almost two decades as a Rover.

All Rovers fans will have fond memories of the midfielder who was a constant thorn in the side of our friends down the M65 on so many occasions, and I reckon there will be a few relieved Clarets fans who were not relishing the prospect of a possible Dunn return to Turf Moor next season.

It is a shame that his service at the club was interrupted by his spell at Birmingham, but it was great to see him return under Mark Hughes and, despite the four-year spell in the West Midlands, I believe Dunny should be entitled to a testimonial.

His decision to leave Rovers truly is the end of an era as one of our best players of the past two decades moves on, and there will be many happy memories, including his hat-trick of penalties in a 6-1 win over Rochdale in the cup, his goals in a 3-3 draw at Highbury in our first season back in the Premier League – as well as his goals against Burnley!

Dunny, I wish you the very best and hope to see you back at Ewood soon.
