ROSSENDALE United face another D-Day today – and will be expelled from the Vodkat League if they fail to fulfil Saturday’s game with Winsford United.

Owner Andrew Connolly is due to return from holiday today and league chiefs will attempt to speak to him to find out what the situation is.

The future of the club is hanging in the balance and league chiefs have issued the stark warning that the Stags will be kicked out and fined if the game with the Cheshire outfit does not go ahead as planned.

The league called off Saturday’s game at Squires Gate and last night’s match at Ramsbottom United amid the uncertainty of the future of the 113-year-old club.

If the weekend clash with Winsford is off they will be kicked out of the North West Counties set-up.

Manager Paul Colgan walked out along with his coaching staff after the water supply was disconnected over an unpaid bill.

And with the water needing connecting, even if Connolly puts a new management structure in place – or asks Colgan to return – it would be a race against time for the game to go ahead.

“It is a difficult situation for everyone at the club,” said Vodkat League secretary John Deal.

“Until we speak to Mr Connolly we do not know what will happen to the club.

“My personal opinion is that it looks very difficult for Rossendale to continue as it stands – but we will know more when the owner returns to the country.”

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that a group would be prepared to form a new club should the present one fold.

Officials from Runcorn Linnets, another club who had to re-form after financial problems, are prepared to advise them.
