Nelson defender Danny Finch is one game away from joining the 100 club at Victoria Park.

The Blackburn-born Finch, who has turned out for Mill Hill’s Sunday team, made his first Nelson appearance in 2009 in his first spell at the club. He then re-joined the Admirals under Mark Fell in 2012 making 28 appearances last term.

Last Saturday’s North West Counties League First Division game was against Eccleshall was his 99th appearance in league and cup competitions for the club and now the former Macclesfield Town, Accrington Stanley and Preston North End youth player is set to make his 100th this weekend when the Admirals host Widnes Vikings.

Nelson boss Fell paid tribute to Finch on the verge of such a milestone and said: “Any player making that many appearances for one non-league club deserves recognition.

“Danny is the sort of player who wears his heart on his sleeve, he’s a winner and a warrior.

“I'm sure the supporters will give him a great reception on Saturday, should he play, for his service to the club.”

Meanwhile, former Lancaster City and Bamber Bridge midfielder George Melling will miss three games for his sending off at Holker Old Boys, while on the injury front Peter Wright will have his Achilles injury assessed but it is not expected to be serious.

And Fell is close to signing two men on loan ahead of the promotion push to compliment the addition of Liam Boswell last week.

Boswell headed back to the Admirals following a brief spell in the Evo-Stik League with Mossley.

The former Bury professional, who plays on the wing, scored seven goals in 17 appearances earlier in the season in addition to a remarkable 23 assists.

He is expected to make his second debut against Widnes.
