COLNE are expected to reveal the identity of Nigel Coates’ replacement next week.

Coates stepped down last month after 10 years in the post and Colne chairman Dave Blacklock says he is impressed at the quality of the applicants so far.

“We’ve had 10 people apply for the job, and some of them have very good experience a lot higher up the non-league ladder,” said Blacklock.

“The closing date for the job is Sunday, and then we’ll probably make a decision shortly afterwards.”

Former Burnley youth team player Steve Pickup and Dixon Lambert have taken the helm for now, although last weekend’s 4-0 home defeat to West Didsbury and Chorlton may not have helped their cause.

“Steve and Dixon will be considered along with the rest who have applied for the job, but they are definitely in the frame," added Blacklock.

Coates has left Colne in good shape – they remain seventh in the North West Counties Premier Division before tonight’s home test against Silsden.

Coates – who also played for Colne Dynamoes in their 1988 FA Vase triumph at Wembley – led the club to the NWCL Second Division title in 2003/4, adding the Second Division Cup and reaching the FA Vase semi-finals that season.

And he has regularly steered the side to top 10 finishes since promotion to the top flight.

“Nigel will still be around for assistance and advice, but it’s a good job for someone and the club is stable,” added Blacklock.
