TOP dogs Padiham want Clarets fans to back their North West Counties League Premier Division promotion push tomorrow as they go into an Arbories clash that could see them take a giant step towards glory.

The Storks go into their match with second-placed Maine Road four points clear of the Manchester side and having played three fewer games – and secretary Alan Smith is hoping Burnley supporters will cheer on Padiham as the Clarets are inactive.

“It would be tremendous if the Burnley fans would come along,” said Smith. “We do get a few coming up when they are away – but it would be a great if more came along tomorrow.

“They will want a football fix and it’s a first versus second clash and will be a good hard game - and if we could get a crowd of more than 200 it would be a great boost for the players.”

Padiham’s surge towards the Evo-Stik League was boosted on Wednesday when they beat Silsden 2-0 and three points against Maine Road would put them firmly in pole position for promotion, although third-placed Runcorn Town, who are six-points behind, are also a big danger.

Bacup warm up for Monday’s Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy final with Fylde with another cup clash. They aim to continue their defence of the North West Counties League Challenge Cup with a home quarter-final with Formby.

In the league Barnoldswick can do Padiham a favour against Runcorn Town, while Colne are at home to Stone.

Nelson go to West Didsbury, while Darwen host Rochdale Town.

In the Evo-Stik League Premier Division Chorley travel to FC United, while Clitheroe are at Prescot Cables and second-placed Ramsbottom United bid to make it eight wins from nine games when they head to Curzon Ashton.
