Sports Blog: Come on you Crawley
8:31am Monday 31st January 2011 in Non-league blog
By Matt Donlan, Sports reporter
THE magic of the FA Cup is alive and well - especially after yesterday’s draw conjured up the dream trip for non-league Crawley Town to Manchester United in the fifth round.
It is 17 years since the last non-league team reached the dizzy heights of the fifth round so you would think the country would cheer the Blue Square Bet Premier boys.
But no.
You see Crawley like spend a bit of money and their manager Steve Evans - a former journeyman player with the likes of Bolton and Albion Rovers - isn’t exactly everyone’s cup of beef tea from his time at Boston.
And don’t you just know it from the bitterness being fired in the direction of Crawley.
But that is hardly the fault of their fans or their players is it?
Crawley’s Broadfield Stadium is a credit to them and the club is, as far as me visits are concerned at least, friendly and well run.
They deserve their day in the sun, they deserve their trip to Old Trafford - and they deserve the support of football fans who still believe in the romance and magic of the cup.
