BARNOLDSWICK Town have reached the fourth round of the NWCL League Challenge Cup but only after being given a mighty scare by Chadderton.

The Premier League high-flyers – who are currently sitting in third place in the division – appeared to be on course for a routine victory after Stuart Airdrie fired Town ahead with 20 minutes remaining.

The lead was doubled by Aaron Hollin-drake in the 79th minute.

But Chadderton, sixth in Division One, turned the tie on its head with two goals in the final four minutes.

Tom Hughes pulled one back in the 86th minute which appeared to be no more than a consolation until Chris Pauley levelled at the death to force extra time.

It meant Barlick had to win the tie all over again which they did thanks to Bill Williams’ strike early in the second period of extra time.

n Padiham’s NWCL Premier Division game with Atherton LR at the Arbories was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Ramsbottom’s trip to Winsford Utd and Bacup’s game at Ashton Athletic in the cup also fell foul to the weather.

And Nelson’s home clash with Cheadle Town was also postponed.
