BRENT Peters wants his Bacup and Rossendale Borough side to step up a level tonight and make progress in the FA Vase as they lock horns with Sheffield outfit Parkgate four days after the sides were involved in an eight-goal thriller.

Borough finished the second qualifying round tie with 10 men after an injury to Luke Morgan in extra time after Peters had used all of his substitutes in the 4-4 draw – and now the sides will try again this evening at West View.

The long-serving manager is warning that the tie is far from over though and is warning his troops that they must dig deep once again if they are to progress.

Peters said: “We may have talented footballers when in possession but not only on Saturday but in previous games, we do not seem to have that aggressive ruthlessness when out of possession.

“It was a mixture of that and also lacking was leadership.

“It never gets any easier being a manger.

“Following the analysing of our previous games in which we have dominated teams, created chances but not been clinical in front of goal.

“We were on Saturday – but in defence we looked solid to a point until certain individuals made uncharacteristic mistakes or to be more precise, decisions that we were punished for and this cost us.”

However, Peters was happy to still be in the hat after his men were forced to dig in during extra time.

“At 4-4 going into extra time and having used all of our substitutes we were reduced to 10 men due to Morgan having to go to hospital with a bad ankle injury.

“That did mean we could very easily have lost the game, however credit to the 10 men they stayed together in order to bring the game back to Bacup and keep us in the hat.

“Two goals from Parkgate were through needless fouls which resulted in free-kicks. I must give credit to the quality of their deliveries, they made it difficult for our keeper but did give their side the opportunity to go and attack the ball, this they did and this they did twice.

“This game is nowhere near over with, we must be prepared and we must be ready.

“There may also be further changes as this situation is most certainly not acceptable, when leading three times with two goal cushions.”

The winners of tonight’s replay will be away to Bootle in the first round proper.

Nelson’s reward for their 4-3 win over Consett is another trip to the North East. They have been drawn at Jarrow Roofing Boldon CA.

Ties will be played on October 19 with the winners receiving £900.
