Big win a delight for Langford
AFC Darwen bounced back from a 5-0 defeat at Ashton Town to thrash Irlam 6-1 in some style on Easter Monday – and that win delighted manager Kenny Langford.
But while Langford was cheered by the stunning win, he remains frustrated with the ups and downs of the campaign.
The two results are typical of the inconsistent season that Darwen have had which has featured many bizarre scorelines, however Langford was delighted with his side’s response.
“We dominated for the majority of the Ashton game but just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net and then we went and conceded five goals in 15 minutes,” said Langford.
“Getting an early goal in the Irlam game was the key – it helped to settle everyone down and lift our confidence.”
Langford’s son, Bobby, proved to be Darwen’s hero as he hit an impressive hat-trick and the Salmoners’ boss hopes to keep hold of the youngster.
“Bobby left to go to Clitheroe earlier in the season but wasn’t playing much so he came back and it would be great to have him for next season.”
Darwen, who currently lie in 13th place in the North West Counties League First Division, will want to better a mid-table finish next year.
“We’ve got a young team with an average age of only 23 or 24 but I’m hoping to keep a settled squad and add a few new players to hopefully kick on and try to get promotion next season,” Langford added.
