NELSON manager Mark Fell is ready to name both of his predecessors in the line-up for tomorrow’s FA Vase first-round clash away to Jarrow Roofing Boldon Community Association.

Fell brought Robert Grimes and Michael Morrison back to the club as players earlier this season after replacing the sacked duo in the Victoria Park hotseat last November.

Grimes and Morrison have yet to start together in the Admirals midfield since returning to the club. That, however, could change tomorrow.

Grimes has been one of Fell’s outstanding performers this season and Morrison is pushing for a starting spot after overcoming the horrific leg break he suffered playing for Colne in February.

Fell said: “It may look a bit strange from the outside having two old managers playing for me but all we’re concerned about is getting the best players for this football club.”

Morrison came off the bench to help Nelson secure a thrilling 4-3 home win over higher-division neighbours Colne in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy first round on Wednesday.

Peter Wright gave the Admirals a second-minute lead but Colne hit back with goals from Jason Hart (2) and Stephen Cassidy.

Ben Hoskin halved the deficit midway through the second half before top-scorer Ritchie Allen netted twice in the final five minutes to complete the comeback.

Fell admitted he missed Allen’s 90th-minute winner as he was writing down the names of the players he wanted to take his side’s penalty kicks in a shoot-out.

Two of Nelson’s best players on the night – Hoskin and Sakeel Abdullah – will miss tomorrow’s Vase trip as they are cup-tied.

Nelson will travel to the north east today and stay overnight before the tie.

Fell has had Jarrow – who play in the Northern League Division Two which is the same level as Nelson– watched on two separate occasions.

With the red-hot Allen and the prolific Wright in top form, Fell said: “It will be Jarrow’s problem to deal with them.

“We’ve got vulnerability at the back, which we’re working on, so it’s up to teams to outscore us.”

Colne, Bacup & Rossendale Borough and Barnoldswick Town are in North West Counties League Premier Division action tomorrow.

Colne travel to second-bottom Alsager Town, Bacup host third-placed AFC Liverpool, while Barnoldswick entertain fourth-placed Runcorn Town.

AFC Darwen are away to table-topping 1874 Northwich in the First Division.
