NEW Nelson boss Paul Fildes is the right man to take the club forward, believes Admirals chief executive Adam Keizer.

Fildes was confirmed as the new manager at Little Wembley shortly after Nelson’s 3-0 defeat to National League North side Chorley in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night.

And Keizer believes the North West Counties League side have got the perfect man in the 34-year-old former Nelson player and Barnoldswick Town boss.

“He’s the right man for the job,” said Keizer.

“We were looking for an ambitious local manager with good knowledge of the North West Counties and non-league football and someone who can buy into the culture and philosophy of the football club.

“Having played for us Fildesy knows the club inside out and he beat some excellent candidates for the job.

“We were impressed with his vision for moving the club forward, his enthusiasm and he’s clearly very popular with everyone at the club, from the players to the chairman to the supporters.

“We’re delighted to have him here as manager. He’s got good links to local players and he’s someone we feel can help develop and get the best out of the young talent we have in the squad, as well as the ability to attract quality local players to the club.

“We will be working hard to ensure he has the resources to build an exciting team.”

Fildes follows in the footsteps of his dad Terry who was also in charge at Nelson.

Fildes watched the Admirals lose to Chorley on Tuesday night in the Trophy but will have been pleased with what he saw from his young side.

Chorley were comfortable winners thanks to goals from Jack Lynch, Paul Jarvis and Max Cartwright but Nelson acquitted themselves well during the game.
