Nelson 7 Leek CSOB 0

Nelson’s incredible run of form continued after hitting five or more goals in a game for the 12th time this season.

The Admirals made it a clean sweep of victories in March to maintain their stranglehold on North West Counties League Division One.

The only doubt for the leaders was whether the match would actually go ahead after a lunchtime deluge left the Victoria Park pitch saturated and match official decided a pitch inspection was required at 2pm.

The pitch passed, due to some excellent work by every man and his dog to shift the standing water.

Nelson opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Daniel Mahoney fired home a loose ball in the area after good work from Liam Boswell down the right.

A second goal arrived five minutes later when leading scorer Peter Wright steered an excellent header into the corner from a Matty O’Neill cross to bag his 32nd goal of the season.

Burnley loan signing Charlie Holt made it 3-0 when the young full back unleashed a left footed effort that crept in at the near post.

Two goals by Joe O’Neill in the space of four minutes made it 5-0 at the break.

The second half was another chance for Nelson to add to their large goal difference, effectively worth a point over the other promotion contenders.

And they added two more goals in the second period, first Boswell getting in on the scoring act before Wright rounded off the rout.
