Accrington and District league ready to celebrate 50 years

THE Accrington and District Junior Football League celebrates its 50th anniversary this season and will hold a series of events to celebrate the occasion.

League representative teams will play a couple of matches against touring Casltleisland FC at Whinney Hill FC on August 19.

An Under 13s match will kick off place at 6pm followed by an Under 15s game (ko 7pm).

The league is hoping that one of its founder members, Horace Freear, will kick off the games.

And on November 15, the league will hold a sportsperson’s dinner at the Poplar Social Club Accrington where former Liverpool star Jan Molby will be guest speaker Jan Molby along with comedian Sean Styles while the event will be compered by Andy Ashworth.

And the league is also planning a small-sided tournament across Saturdays in October and November at Witton Park.
