CLITHEROE striker Sefton Gonzales has left the club to join National League North side Stockport County.

Gonzales, who was top scorer for the Blues last season, has made the step up two leagues from the Evo-Stik League Division One North.

The 23-year-old could find himself playing alongside former Accrington Stanley striker Kayode Odejayi after the forward also penned a deal at Edgeley Park.

Of signing Gonzales, County manager Neil Young said: “Sefton’s signing completes our forward line.

“He’s another long-term target we’ve secured against a background of interest from clubs at a higher level.

Clitheroe began life without Gonzales with a 2-1 friendly defeat to Ramsbottom United on Saturday.

The Rams took the lead midway through the first half through Lee Gaskell but the home side levelled three minutes after the break thanks to a fantastic finish from David Lynch.

But the visitors won the match seven minutes from time.

Elsewhere, National League North side Chorley secured a 2-0 pre-season win away at Bamber Bridge.

Chris Almond put the visitors in front on nine minutes when he headed home a Josh Hine cross before Andy Teague made it two 10 minutes before the break when he headed home a Dale Whitham corner.

Barnoldswick Town were beaten 3-1 at Charnock Richard while Padiham slipped to defeat at Longridge Town by the same scoreline.

Colne impressed as they secured a 5-0 away win at Euxton Villa thanks to a Danny Boyle brace and goals from Andy Tinker, Jay Hart and Spencer Jordan.

Nelson were beaten 6-1 at Marske United with Peter Wright on target.
