CLITHEROE will face former Football League opposition when they make the trip to Darlington in Evo-Stik First Division North tomorrow.

Darlington currently sit fifth in the table and attracted a crowd of 1,514 for their 2-2 draw with Salford City last weekend.

They are currently playing their home games at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park after their financial problems forced them to move out of the 25,000-seater Darlington Arena in 2012, only nine years after the stadium was opened.

Darlington were relegated from League Two in 2010 and dropped out of the Conference two years later.

Their cash woes saw them reformed as Darlington 1883 that summer, and they were promoted from the Northern League last season.

But Clitheroe sit only four places below them in the table going into this fixture and will be raring to go after their New Year’s Day fixture at Bamber Bridge was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Blues boss Simon Garner installed striker Sam Heap as their first-team coach earlier in the week, with Jason Jones leaving Shawbridge due to a a change in work and family circumstances.

Ramsbottom United also make a trip to more famous opposition tomorrow as they visit former Conference side Northwich Victoria, who are managed by former Stockport and Port Vale boss Jim Gannon.

Northwich are struggling in 14th in the table, while Ramsbottom sit seventh with games in hand on the sides in the play-off places.

Padiham entertain Salford City tomorrow, while in the Premier Division Chorley are at home to Grantham Town.

They could return to the top of the table if they win and Skelmersdale lose at Whitby.

In the North West Counties Premier Division, Colne host Alsager Town and Barnoldswick Town visit Glossop North End. Bacup and Rossendale Borough make the trip to Congleton.

AFC Darwen are away to Atherton Collieries in the First Division, while Nelson travel to Daisy Hill.
