CHORLEY hot-shot Steve Foster insists there is “life in the old dog yet” as he looks to fire the Magpies to a second successive promotion.

The 30-year-old prolific striker was crowned as the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s player of the year on Sunday as he sets his sights on continuing Chorley’s rise up the non league ladder.

Foster has already scored 21 goals this campaign, including 18 in the league, to help the Magpies to fourth place ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Garry Flitcroft’s men are just three points behind second placed Northwich Victoria but three points ahead of play-off chasing Hednesford.

Foster said: “I have been scoring goals for a few seasons but the past couple of seasons I have done well for Salford and Witton Albion and have come to Chorley, helped us get promoted last year and it has continued. I’m over the moon.

“We had a dip in form a few weeks ago mainly due to injuries but our recent form, especially the past two weeks where we have scored 10 goals in two games, hopefully is the type of form that will take us to next league.

“I am 31 at the end of this year but there is a quite a bit left in the old dog yet hopefully. Hope I can scoring goals and will get Chorley to the next couple of levels before I have to hang them up.”

Foster signed from Salford City in early March 2011 at the second attempt.

Having turned down an approach by Flitcroft earlier in the season, staying loyal to Salford in their quest for promotion at the time, Foster joined the Magpies once Salford were out of the play-off chase.

Chester look certain to secure the Premier Division title as they go into the last few weeks of the season with an eight point advantage.

Chorley have their eyes very much though on a play-off place having enjoyed two resounding victories in recent weeks as they show signs of returning to top form at just the right time.

Foster scored the first of Chorley’s goals at the weekend as they thrashed Hednesford 5-1 at Victory Park.
