CHORLEY boss Gary Flitcroft believes his side will return to winning ways sooner rather than later after the Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw by Oxford City on Tuesday night.

The draw means Chorley have picked up just one point from their last three Vanarama Conference North matches heading into Saturday’s clash with Worcester City.

But Flitcroft believes his side, who dominated the opening 45 minutes in midweek without finding the net, will return to winning ways.

The Magpies boss said: “When you are on top like that you have to score your goals.

“The main thing is we are creating chances and we are dominating teams. It will come.

“It is a point on the board.

“We go again on Saturday.”

Chorley went into the break at 0-0 having spurned a host of opportunities before James Dean put them in front 10 minutes after the re-start.

But the visitors equalised through Lee Henderson to earn a share of the spoils.

The opening period saw Aaron Burns hit the bar before Dean and Josh Hine both missed chances as the sides went into the break level pegging.

Flitcroft added: “We should have had three or four in the first half.

“I just thought we dropped a bit deep defensively.

“We totally dominated them in the second half and we scored a great goal 10 minutes in and you thought we were going to go on and win it but credit to them they got back into it.”

Meanwhile, Chorley will face Clitheroe in the final of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy next week after Simon Garner’s men overcame Atherton Collieries in the semi-final on Tuesday night.

The showpiece will take place on Monday, March 17, at Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium.

Flitcroft added: “We will look forward to it and it is a chance to win a trophy which is what it is all about at the end of the day.”
