CHORLEY will face a trip to Northwich Victoria or Marine in the final round of FA Cup qualifying.

The Magpies booked their place in the fourth qualifying round after a battling 3-2 away win over Whitley Bay on Saturday.

And they will find out their opponents tonight when Evo-Stik League Premier Division outfit Marine and Evo-Stik League Division North high-flyers Northwich play their replay.

Should Chorley come through that tie on Saturday, October 24, they will take their place in the first round proper alongside clubs from League One and League Two for the first time since 1990. The last time Chorley reached that stage they overcame Bury before falling to Shrewsbury Town in round two.

The first round ties take place on Saturday, November 7.

And Magpies boss Matt Jansen is hoping the cup run can aid his side’s league form as they look to climb into the National League North play-off positions.

Chorley are currently 10th, four points off the top five.

“I want a good run of results,” said Jansen.

“It has been a stop-start season so far and we can’t build any momentum. We have played five of the top six and we still have to play five of the bottom six but I want to go on a run where we can build some momentum and confidence and be a dominant force again.”

Jansen admitted he was pleased for his side to come through their tough test in the north east on Saturday against a side who play their football three levels below the Magpies.

“It was a hard fought performance and a difficult place to come and we ground out a result,” he said.

“There are cup shocks in every round every year and thankfully we managed to avoid one today.

“We had the balance of play which you would expect but it was a difficult place to come.

“It was a tough task and thankfully we did enough.”

Jansen admitted he had taken off skipper Andy Teague at half time after he struggled in the opening 45 minutes.

“You can’t make individual errors,” said Jansen.

“The first goal was a gift and it gave them a lift. The crowd got behind them and it was difficult.

“It is a rare mistake. We have to start well against these teams.

“Teaguey held his hands up to a couple of mistakes and he said his head wasn’t right. He has been brilliant for us and when he said that he was happy to come off for the team.

“When we went 2-1 up they were going to throw everything at us and they did and they got a fortunate equaliser. We got what we deserved in the end.”
