CONFIDENCE is coursing through the Chorley camp for tonight’s big Vanarama National League North clash at home to Stockport County (7.45pm).

That was the verdict of Magpies manager Matt Jansen after seeing his side come from a goal down to win 2-1 at Boston United on Saturday and make it three away triumphs on the trot.

Chorley’s form at home has not been as impressive, winning just one of their four matches so far at Victory Park.

But Jansen insists their performances have been better than results suggest and reckons the victory over Boston will do wonders for the Magpies’ self-belief.

“We battered Boston in the second half and we’ve got to take huge confidence going into the next game against Stockport,” said Jansen.

“Boston aren’t bad, they were in the play-offs last season and they are pretty much unchanged. In fact they’ve maybe strengthened a little bit over the summer.

“So we knew it was going to be a tough game and it was fantastically satisfying to get what we got in the end.

“The lads are buzzing and it’s important we keep that momentum going into Tuesday.

“We haven’t been performing badly, we have been performing well. Other than the North Ferriby game, which was the only game that disappointed me, we’ve been performing well and we haven’t always got what we deserved in games.”

The Magpies’ hero on Saturday was the on-fire Josh Hine.

His second-half double hauled him up to seven goals for the season and moved him level at the top of the league’s scoring charts.

But Jansen was also impressed by Hine’s fellow forwards Darren Stephenson and Marcus Carver.

He said: “I needed a little bit more from my front three and I asked them to step up in the second half – and they more than did that.

“They were fantastic and caused them all sorts of problems.”

Chorley, meanwhile, have been drawn at home to Frickley Athletic in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The tie will take place on Saturday, September 26 at Victory Park.
