Stores stock up on booze for the Euros

OFF-licences across East Lancashire are hoping for a summer boost as Euro 2012 gets under way.

With the weather turning sour, shops have seen a sales slump, but bosses are crossing their fingers that the start of the football will help them turn it around.

Wez Iqbal, manager of Anglesey Avenue Off Licence, Burnley, said: “We have ordered some extra stock in ahead of the competition.

“We got a few extra in last week when it was sunny, but the weather doesn’t help.

“Hopefully the start of the Euros will change that.”

Manager of Bargain Booze, Union Road, Oswaldtwistle, Derek Bretherton, said: “I expect it will be busy, but it depends on the weather.”
