CHORLEY FC skipper Andy Teague insists Magpies fans are spurring their team on for a promotion charge next season.

More than 1,900 supporters made the trip to the Shay Stadium and drowned out the hosts during the lively Vanarama North final encounter.

It may not have been the result they wanted but the 31-year-old captain says the team will come back stronger next term.

He said: “They are an integral part of the club and it is important we interact with them after the final whistle as they stayed to the end cheering us on.

“They were amazing and they are part of the family at this club.

“We felt we were fitter than them and there was only one team that was going to win it as we were stronger.

“It was just a shame that they got the goal in extra time as we were pushing for a goal too.”

There were lots of emotions after the final whistle - especially for manager Matt Jansen and Teague insists it was understandable that the ex-Blackburn Rovers ace was sheding a tear at the end.

He said: “It is Matty’s first job as manager and this is another chance for him to build something special so to be emotional is understandable for us.”

Teague insists the result was a bitter pill to swallow .

He said: “You never want to lose in a final and we are all disappointed even now, two days on.

“If we had taken the lead in the game, they would not have got back in it.

“The club is still progressing year on year and the players want to keep going and I have a few years left in the tank.”
