CHORLEY captain Andrew Teague said the club must use the disappointment of their Conference North play-off defeat to encourage them to go one better next season.

The Magpies led 2-0 at home to Guiseley on Saturday, but losing three of their back five to injury took its toll as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat to miss out on back-to-back promotions.

Chorley felt they should have had a late equaliser when Matt Flynn’s header hit the underside of the bar and bounced down. The goal was not given, but footage showed the ball had crossed the line.

But Teague warned against a hangover next season, and instead encouraged his team-mates to use the experience as a positive.

“Disappointments aren’t good, but they make you a stronger person. We just want to come back stronger,” said the skipper, who scored the opening goal but had to go off with a hamstring injury early in the second half.

“I’ve been struggling with a nerve but I had lots of treatment all week to play. It seized up at half-time though and I couldn’t really carry on, although with hindsight I wonder if I should.

“Losing three of our back five in the second half helped them a lot, and the disallowed goal looked like it had crossed the line. It’s just the way it goes sometimes.”

Teague is confident the squad will stick together and, if they do, they can earn their place in the Conference next year.

“We’re all mates here so hopefully everyone will be back for next season to have another go,” he said, adding: “It’s been a good season when you look back.

“At the start of the season we would have been happy with mid-table straight after winning promotion so to get to the play-off final has been fantastic.

“And we’ve got some silverware as well, winning the Lancashire Trophy.

“We have to take all out experiences into next year and go one better.”
