BURNLEY’S professionalism under Sean Dyche will stop them for underestimating Lincoln City when the non-leaguers travel to Turf Moor tomorrow (12.30pm) with an FA Cup quarter-final spot up for grabs.

That is the view of centre-back Michael Keane, and while the 24-year-old is full of respect for the Imps’ remarkable cup exploits this season, he is confident the Clarets can end their run at the fifth round stage.

Danny Cowley’s National League leaders have already dumped Championship sides Ipswich and Brighton out of the competition, as well as League One outfit Oldham. Keane knows another shock would make Burnley the story of the cup weekend, and that is something he is determined to avoid.

“We’re not going to take it lightly, it’ll be a tough game because they’ve done brilliant to get this far but we need to make sure that they don’t go any further,” he said.

“We use that (embarrassment of an upset) as our motivation but we go about our work the same day in day out.

“We’re so professional and we never let our standards slip, so I don’t see any reason why that will happen on Saturday.

“The lads are spot on every day in training and they’re working really hard. We don’t have any down days, so I’m sure that we’ll be on it.

“We can’t underestimate them. They’ve got some good players and we’ll look at their team this week. To get this far they’ve obviously been doing something right, so we’ll have to be aware of what they’re capable of. I think if we play like we can do then we’ll win the tie.”

Lincoln boss Cowley was an interested observer at Turf Moor on Sunday as Burnley drew with Premier League leaders Chelsea.

A day earlier Dyche had been at Sincil Bank to see the Imps beat Woking 3-2.

“They probably know what to expect from us,” said Keane. “We’re nice and solid but we’re also a threat going forward. We’re strong from set-plays and we’ve got a lot of players that can win games.

“We’re not comfortable in the Premier League, we want to keep kicking on. We can’t rest, we’re at 30 points now but we need to get quite a lot more on the board still. We can’t rest there but while we’re in this position in the FA Cup we’re going to give it a real go. We want to see how far we can get.

“It’s huge for us and the fans. It would be brilliant to get to Wembley but it’s one game at a time and we need to get past Lincoln first.

“That’s what we want to do (survive in the Premier League and advance in the FA Cup). That’s the aim now. First and foremost we want to make sure that we’re safe in the Premier League but we’ve always taken things one game at a time and now the focus is on the FA Cup.”
