FREDRIK Ulvestad earned praise for his full Burnley debut from manager Sean Dyche.

The Norwegian, who was signed on a free transfer in March following a successful trial, made his Clarets bow from the bench in the last game at Turf Moor – a goalless draw with Stoke City.

Ulvestad, who left Aalesund at the end of the Norwegian season, found himself in the starting line-up for the season finale at Aston Villa, and he caught the eye in the 65 minutes he was on the pitch.

The 22-year-old was deft and diligent both on and off the ball, moving the ball quickly and cleverly while also persistent in his efforts to close down.

Boss Dyche believes the midfielder’s hard work in training paid off to warrant his first start.

“It was great to see him out there, we’ve been close to getting him out on the pitch,” said the Clarets chief after the 1-0 win at Villa Park.

“He got a taste last week, we thought it was the right time to try him.

“He’s developed well in training, getting used to the tempo.

“It’s a big ask jumping from his level of football in Norway to that.

“He tired a bit, but I thought he did well.”
