SEAN Dyche has reiterated his commitment to the Clarets as the club bids for a swift return to the top flight.

Burnley bowed out of the Premier League, for at least another year, with Sunday’s 1-0 win at Aston Villa.

After securing promotion in only his first full season in charge and winning admirers for his side’s performances against the top teams, Dyche’s stock is high and there have been question marks about his future at Turf Moor.

Although Paul Clement is the favourite to take over at Derby County after Steve McClaren was sacked last night, the Burnley boss has nevertheless been heavily linked and is thought to have impressed the Rams board.

But when asked if he would stick with the Clarets, the 43-year-old was keen to nip any speculation about his future in the bud.

“People keep coming up to me ‘Oh, you’re leaving!’, I don’t know where that’s come from,” he said.

“I’ve never said it once, I’m quite happy here.

“I believe in what the club have built, what we can build and we can move it forward. I believe there’s many changes we can still make, many things we’ve learned, so I just crack on, simple as that.

“I think the Championship is a tough division, we’ve come out of it once, so we know and our fans know as well.

“I think they’ve enjoyed the reality we’ve brought as a staff and a group of players.

“There are no guarantees.

“We’re going to have to work very hard, recruit well, organise well and add in all the things we’ve learned from this level. It is a different game. The mindset has to stay the same, but the game changes slightly in the Championship and you have to be ready for it, and we will be.”

Although Burnley will be among the favourites for promotion next season, Dyche does not believe he will have his work cut out in trying to manage expectation.

“The fans know how honest I am so I don’t think we’ll have a problem with it,” he said.

“They know how hard we had to work last time to get it done, so I don’t think they for one moment will think you just turn up and win every week.

“We only lost five games last time, but that’s very low for a team that gets promoted.

“I think our fans are reality-bound, they’ve absorbed the messages and know this business is tough.

“They’ve had a couple of great years and want more, but so do we. We all want more as well.”
