I THOUGHT the way Jose Mourinho reacted after the incident with Ashley Barnes on Saturday was embarrassing.

I felt sorry for Ashley. There is no doubt it looked bad but he was clearly the man in possession of the ball and was playing a pass at the time, and he caught Matic on the follow through.

It didn’t look nice but it certainly wasn’t intentional and for Mourinho to say what he did was embarrassing.

I don’t know him personally but I can only imagine that it has been a really tough week for Ashley, his weekend must have been horrendous.

From seeing him play I know he’s not the type of player to leave a foot in, it’s just not in his nature. He enjoys a physical battle with defenders but he would never do something like that.

It must have been difficult for him and his family this week, and your family can suffer at a time like this week.

The way Jose Mourinho accused him after the game and again on Sunday was disgusting. It was totally uncalled for.

I think it was sour grapes that little old Burnley managed to get a point at Chelsea.

Mourinho didn’t like that, but if Chelsea had won the game I don’t think we would have heard much more about it.

Sometimes you have to praise the opposition and give them credit, but that’s not something he is very good at.

I just hope Ashley doesn’t lose that edge and competitiveness, it’s a huge part of his game.

It’s like Wayne Rooney, he wouldn’t be the same player with that competitive streak.

I’m sure the opposition will try to get under Ashley’s skin now, that’s a part of football, and the defenders will be trying to get him to react.

But he has to stay cool, be professional and not respond to it, which I’m sure he will be able to do.

Unfortunately the fall-out overshadowed what was a great result for Burnley.

Now we just need to back that up with a few wins at home.
