BURNLEY supporters voiced their opinions about the shock possibility of losing Clarets boss Owen Coyle. Fans across the town voiced a united opinion.

Clarets fans speak out over Owen Coyle

  • Burnley legend Willie Irvine said: “All the fans love the job he has done here and if you speak to any of the players, they are all full of respect and admiration for him. But I really do believe his heart lies at Bolton.”
  • Burnley fan Alastair Campbell, said: “Coyle is a hugely popular manager at Burnley and his name is sung more than any of the players.
“He has led Burnley to the Premier League and if he went, Burnley fans would find it hard to take and hard to fathom
  • Weatherman and Burnley supporter John Kettley said: “I understand that Bolton Wanderers recommended him as a manager to Burnley before he joined us so it’s no great surprise that he might soon leave for them.”
  • Former Burnley MP and Clarets fan Peter Pike said a managerial departure could affect Burnley’s season. He said: “I hope Owen stays. I know he would be sadly missed by the players and the fans if he decides to go.”
  • Burnley Council leader Gordon Birtwistle said he was concerned about the growing speculation.
He said: “Owen’s done a wonderful job at Burnley and I know the people of the town want him to stay.”
  • Leader of the Burnley Labour Party, Coun Julie Cooper, said: “I sincerely hope the speculation is not true because Owen is the best thing to happen to Burnley FC.
“Graham Alexander was right when he said Coyle turned the team into a fighting force.
  • Mayor of Burnley, Coun John Harbour, was in agreement with other local councillors. He said: “Owen has made a name for himself at Burnley but there is still a job to do at the club.
“I know he has history at Bolton but a move would not make sense.
  • Deputy leader of Burnley council and Turf Moor season ticket holder Margaret Lishman said: “I do think it would be sad if Owen left but he has done an absolutely fantastic job with Burnley and he has given us a team which we can now build on.”
  • Rossendale Coun Tim Nuttall, said: “It would be really sad to see him go.
“I was at the game recently where he came to our side of the pitch to applaud the fans, and you look back and think was it his goodbye.”
  • James McDonough, 25, from Turf Moor Estate, said: “If it was the worst case scenario and Owen did leave, then I’d like to see Paul Lambert from Norwich coming in. He’s the sort of manager who can get a team playing really well.”
  • Reece Folds, 14, said: “Before Owen came to Burnley, we were struggling, and then he turned it around. I really don’t want to see him leave Burnley.”
  • Kevin Green, 47, from Padiham, said: “I think from what I have heard, its fifty fifty whether or not he will go.
“He’s a great manager, he’s devel-oped the squad to work together, so it would be difficult for a new manager to come in straight awa
  • Scott Anderton, 16, from Burnley, said: “I think if he left, it might throw us into a relegation battle. It’s upsetting thinking about him leaving to go to Bolton.”
  • Chris Baker, 31, from Burnley, said: “As a fan I’d be gutted to see him go, but even neutrals would question why someone would leave Burnley to manage Bolton?”
  • Ben Goby, 11, said: “Owen has done a really good job here with Burnley and I really would not want to see him leave.”
  • Dave McDonald, 53, from Padiham, said: “It would be really sad to see him go, but we have a good unit of players and massive support from the town. Where else can you go to see a town united like ours over their team?”
  • Andrew Margison, 29, of Healey Wood, said: “We could not begrudge Owen if he left because he has done a great job here. But I think he should wait for a bigger club.”
  • John Bracken, of Padiham, said: “We do not mind if Owen leaves to go to Bolton, as long as he stays away from Blackburn. If he leaves and we finish above Blackburn, I’ll still be satisfied.”
  • David Drabble, 44, from Lowerhouse, said: “He’s a real genuine man, so I don’t think he will leave.”
  • Paul Young, licensee of the Inn on the Wharf, said: “It would be a real shame if Owen left because he has raised the profile of the club and the town itself. He has been in my pub a few times and he’s a great guy.”
