DANNY Ings is no longer a teen, but remains one of Burnley’s bright attacking hopes for the new season.
The day after celebrating his 20th birthday, the striker added to his pre-season goal tally to make it back-to-back friendly wins.
After beating Altrincham 4-1 on Saturday, in which Ings scored the second, manager Eddie Howe expected a sterner test from League One Bury.
He was proved right, as Richie Barker’s men, including veteran stopper Efe Sodje, put up greater resistance.
But birthday boy Ings eventually ground them down to maintain a winning start to pre-season.
BURNLEY (first half): Brian Jensen; Kieran Trippier, Michael Duff, Ben Mee, Joseph Mills; Dean Marney; George Porter, Ross Wallace, Alex MacDonald, Junior Stanislas; Charlie Austin
BURNLEY (second half): Lee Grant; Kevin Long, David Edgar, Jason Shackell; Luke O’Neill, Keith Treacy, Steven Hewitt, Chris McCann, Daniel Lafferty; Danny Ings, Martin Paterson.

As it happens the goal was a top notch chip over the keeper after great work by Keith Treacy.

- Jason Shackel is definitely the boss on the pitch.
- Lee Grant is still a liability.
- George Porter is "one for the future".
- Alex Macdonald is desperate to break into this team.
- Trippier and Mills are going to worry many defences this season.
- I've saved the best until last : Keith Treacy not only set up the goal, made some good runs and placed some great passes, but he put in a full shift, which included a good deal of tackling back to win the ball. If we can keep him this motivated, then he should be an asset to the team and the club this season.
We all know that he has the ability to shine and be one of our best players. I only hope that Eddie Howe and Jason Shackell can keep him motivated.
All in all, an interesting evening.

We have plenty of attacking midfielders in the squad. - To name but one, as long as he stays at the club and remains uninjured, then Chris McCann is ideal for that role.
What we're short of is defensive midfielders, who can protect the back four.
That said, the experiment last night, in using Edgar in that role, looked quite promising.
(oh, and apologies to Jason Shackell for the typo in his name on my earlier post !)
