JASON Tindall said the Burnley players had wanted to 'win it for Eddie', but was pleased to have arrested a run of three straight defeats with a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace.

Manager Eddie Howe did not attend the game following the sudden death of his mother, Annie.

Assistant manager Tindall was in charge of first team affairs in the 34-year-old's absence, and said: “It was a tough day obviously, none more so than Ed himself.

“It's disappointing we couldn't get the win for him and his family.

“We started the game well but after that they got a hold in the game and it was an even contest.

“We're disappointed not to have won the game, but we have stopped the rot with a point.”

Burnley took the lead with Jay Rodriguez's second-minute penalty after Martin Paterson was fouled by Jonathan Parr inside a minute of the kick-off.

But they couldn't build on their early advantage and Palace equalised with a penalty of their own just after the hour when Wilfried Zaha went down under Kieran Trippier's challenge.

Winger Zaha was sent off with around 20 minutes to go after kicking out at David Edgar in an off-the-ball incident, but Burnley couldn't capitalise on their one-man advantage.
