Write your own history, Howe urges Burnley squad

EDDIE Howe has urged his Burnley side to secure their own place in the club’s history this season as the Clarets look to finally move on from the success of the Owen Coyle era.
Burnley currently have the same number of points and goals as they did at the same stage during their famous promotion season three years ago, and Howe hopes the current campaign will have a similar outcome.
The BurnleyClaretsunder Coyle, when the manager and his players became heroes in the town for their ascent to the Premier League via the play-off final at Wembley.
But Howe also knows that the Clarets cannot continue to look back to that season forever and must now start to create some new history, something he believes they are capable of doing in the months to come.
Burnley sit ninth in the Championship but within three points of the play-off places ahead of this afternoon’s home game against Peterborough United.
Told about the current similarities between this season and the 2008/09 campaign, Howe said: “I don’t think it means anything.
“People will probably look at it and I suppose it’s nice to know we’re not far away from where that side was, and hopefully we can emulate them.
“You don’t want to live in the past, you want to live in the future and what we can achieve. That’s definitely what we’re trying to do.
“The promotion season was a fantastic achievement for everybody associated with it at the time, but it’s gone and we’ve got to try to achieve things ourselves with this team. Hopefully we can do that.
“The beauty of it is there are not many survivors from that team in terms of people perhaps looking back and comparing.
“The players won’t be doing that because, although there are a few in there. I think this team is eager to get people talking about them hopefully in the future and remembering this team fondly.
“That’s always the aim.”

Howe has a steely and realistic character about him that has the charismatic style that creates trust and belief in the players, without the **** 'long may it continue' crap of Coyle.
You feel that you can believe again as a Clarets supporter after I thought I'd never believe or trust again after Coyle's underhand, disloyal and greedy antics.
Truth is, the board have pulled another rabbit out of the hat again, whilst sticking with a unique policy of not wasting money and investing wisely in the players their young manager believes in.
We may not hang onto Eddie forever, but the ride this time - even if it is unsuccessful in the current campaign, is all the more satisfying - even more than the Premiership year.
Thanks Eddie, Jason, Brendan, Barry and all of the boys. The future is just around the corner - and what a future it promises to be.

Not only are we 3 points off the play-off zone, but also only 10 points from the top of the table.
Yes, Eddie, go ahead, taking each game as it comes, and create for us a great history this season.
While you're at it, though, please do acknowledge and act on the fact that the turnaround in our defensive (and, hence, overall) performances in recent months have been as a result of the return to fitness and the team of "the ageing" general, Michael Duff, at the back. - viz Norwich defeat in the one game he's missed in recent months.
It's time to get him under contract for another couple of years. - He's a brilliant mentor for the youngsters coming through - i.e. Edgar, Mee and Trippier
