Sean Dyche was pleased with his side’s workout at Port Vale as Burnley came from behind for a 3-1 win.

The Clarets boss was at Vale Park while Ian Woan oversaw the 1-0 defeat at Crewe as the squad was split between two games against League Two opposition.

While a Charlie Kirk goal settled the game at Gresty Road, Dyche saw his XI go 1-0 down after just 10 minutes to a Tom Pope strike.

Burnley rallied after the break though with Chris Wood, Matej Vydra and Robbie Brady on target in Staffordshire.

“We’ve had a tough week.” Dyche said.

“We did expect a little bit of sluggishness in the players which there was in the first half.

“Credit to Port Vale, I thought they were excellent first half and then second half I thought we were strong.

“We saw out the game properly and played well in patches.

“For a first run out I’m really pleased and the end of what has been a tough week.

“We’ve put a lot of miles on the clock and it was good to see everyone come through unscathed.

“It’s all about getting the match fitness and match sharpness.

“The training’s gone well and it’s a start on the football and getting them back into match mode.”
